Instructions
Make hibiscus lemonade:
Begin by heating the water in a kettle or in a pot on the stove.
7 cups hot water
When it’s simmering but not boiling, turn off the heat. If your using a heat-safe jug, pour the hot water into it.
Add your hibiscus tea bags or hibiscus flowers. If umpire using dried flowers I recommend putting them in a reusable tea bag to make it easier to remove later.
10 g dried hibiscus flowers
Add the honey or sweetener of choice and allow it to steep for at least 10 minutes, or until it cools to room temperature.
3/4 cup honey
Remove the hibiscus tea bags, stir in the lemon juice, and adjust the sweetness to taste.
3/4 cup lemon juice
Make butterfly pea flower tea:
In a small jug, mix the butterfly pea flower with the other cup of warm water and allow it to steep for a few minutes.
1 tablespoon butterfly pea flower powder, 1 cup hot water
Make the grape eyesballs:
Prepare the grape eyeballs by slicing the grapes in half. Scoop out some of the flesh from the centre of each cut half. I used a metal 1/8th teaspoon to do this.
4 grapes
Place a small blueberry in the centre of each grape and secure it by skewering a toothpick through the grape, then blueberry, then through the other side of the grape. See photos in the post if needed.
8 small blueberries
To make the Halloween tea mocktails
Add ice to a tall glass.
Fill the glass up 3/4 full with hibiscus lemonade.
Pour in the butterfly pea flower tea and watch it turn from blue to purple.
Garnish with an eyeball by balancing the skewer over the glass rim, and enjoy!
Notes
Bold Flavors: Let the teas steep a bit longer for a stronger taste and a more vivid color show. The deeper the hues, the spookier the effect!
Sweetness: Feel free to tweak the sweetness. More honey? A sprinkle of sugar? It's all up to how sweet your goblins like it.
Fizzy Fun: For a fizzier drink, replace half of the hibiscus tea with club soda or lemon-lime soda.
Storage instructions
Refrigerate: Keep any leftover tea mocktail in the refrigerator. You can either store the tea separately to enjoy the magic again or mix them together. It stays fresh and tasty for up to a week.
Mix Before Serving: Give it a good stir or shake before pouring, as the ingredients might settle.
Ice: Serve chilled or with fresh ice to maintain the best flavor and presentation.
